How does it feel to taste food that has been stored for decades? Ask it to Hans Feldmeier, 87, a German chemist who had long since retired.
Feldmeier store canned food in the cupboard for 64 years. Apparently, according to authorities in the German food sector, today declared that food consumption is still feasible. Thus, these foods can last beyond the time expired, as applicable to other products.
Although worthy of consumption, the authorities also mention that the food was rather tasteless or different from the moment they first produced. The food was a can of lard is branded Swift's Bland.
Feldmeier said that he was getting a can of pork fat while still in school in 1948 near Rostock, northeast Germany. At that time, the food is obtained from the U.S. government's aid program of post-war. According to Feldmeier, then he got a can of lard, two packets of instant noodles, and milk. "I do not want to throw it away," he recalls. Then, he kept the lard cans for emergency purposes.
Later, Feldmeier was decided to test the feasibility because there is debate about the safety of the expired products and processed food products in cans. Finally, he brings the pork fat in the food safety authority. He was surprised to learn the results of tests performed.
"Of course there are decreased levels of taste and aroma of the food (after saving tens of years)," said Frerk Feldhusen of the Office of Agriculture, Food Safety and Fishery Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a state in northeastern Germany, while the smell of pork fat.
He said the canned food is not readily soluble, it looks a bit old, and changed the color a bit dull. "However, in general, the level of freshness and composition of the material is still very satisfying," added Feldhusen. (AFP / cak / bi)
